Death by Drowning in Canal 1929

Whilst researching a death in Cannock I came across a newspaper report of an coroners enquiry in Tettenhall. The inquiry was adjourned and I can't find the outcome. If anyone knows the story behind it then I would love to hear it.

In Nov/Dec 1929 a 3 year old girl was found in the canal near Dillingsdale by a boatman Charles Stokes. The girl had a firebrick tied round her waist. She seemed quite well dressed with a strawberry coloured dress, fur round coak collar and yellow slippers.

The bellingham Family
I am researching my family tree of the Bellingham name. I have reached William Bellingham, father of William Bellingham and son of Elizabeth (surname unknown). William I was married to Emma, born 1847, he was born in 1857 and Elizabeth was born in 1831. I am interested in tracing the Bellingham name as far back as possible and any famous relations or relatives still in Tettenhall would also be very useful. I am not sure where he lived but I think it was somewhere in the area of Wolverhampton.

I am also interested in the Faultless family which i have got to Charles Faultless born in 1870 and married to Amelia Hampden, 1872. I am fairly sure the Faultless's lived in Birmingham but i may be mistaken.

I have searched through all of the online censuses and this is as far as i can get. If anyone knows of another useful source which can go back further for any family name i would be very grateful. Any information regarding either of these family names would be very useful and much appreciated.

Please email at nigel.bellingham@belgacom.net if you have any information.

The MEREDITH family OF OAKEN LAWN AND KINGSWOOD COMMON
I am searching for information regarding the family that once lived on Oaken Lawn from at least 1840 onwards. Some of their descendants lived around the area for quite some time afterwards.Their son Charles, my g.grandfather and his wife Margaret (Beard of Newport, Shrops),lived on Kingswood Common at 'Rose Cottage'; my grandparents Frederick & Elizabeth(Walker) and my mother(Louisa), my sister and I, also lived at Red House on the common. Although I have plenty of information about the family, there are so many pieces that I cannot fit together especially about the family lines that married into it; namely Pitchford; Bedward; Porter; Gibson; Jackson to name but a few and I would be grateful if anyone had any furthur information to share with me. I will be quite willing to impart any information that I have with anyone who cares for it. I await in anticipation for any replies!

The Kendrick family

Trying to find out some background to the following family of Kendrick's from the Wolverhampton area.

Joseph Kendrick, head, born 1845, Bilston, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire - bricksetter.

Hannah Lees, wife, born 1840, Codsall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire

Mary Ann Kendrick, daughter, born 1866, Tettenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire

Thomas Kendrick, son, born 1868, Tettenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire

Alice Kendrick, daughter, born 1870, Bilston, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire

George Kendrick, son, born 1887, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire

Does anybody recognise these names or have any information as to the places mentioned - where I could find further information or know anyone who could find out more. Can anyone track back Joseph or Hannah's family line further than I can so far. George Kendrick is my Great Grandfather. He later moved to the Wirral in
Cheshire about 1912.

My email address is richardtanya@hotmail.co.uk if anyone has any information.

The Middleton family

I am researching the family history of my friend, Jeff Middleton. His great grandfather was William Middleton who was listed as living in Tettenhall from 1871 to 1901 (Census data).

His first wife Helen or Ellen died c. 1886 and he remarried in1889 to Polly or Pollie Carter, also of Tettenhall.

Their first son, Harry was born in 1890.

Does anyone have any information or photographs that I could have?

Please email here if you can help: david.robinson83@tesco.net

The bayliss family

In a statement dictated by my great grandfather Edwin Joseph BAYLISS (b.1830) he says he is related to William Bayliss, founder of the iron foundry in Wolverhampton Bayliss, Jones and Bayliss.
He also mentions Sir Wyke Bayliss, Victorian artist. A member of the same family is the artist Edwin Butler Bayliss who lived in The Woodhouse, Tettenhall in 1901.

Earlier this year the obituary of the Queen's physician, Sir Richard Bayliss, gave his birthplace as Tettenhall and that he was the "son of a Wolverhampton ironmaster".

Has anyone researched the BAYLISS family tree please?

The Pitt Family

I am looking for any people in Tettenhall named PITT around the early l700s.
My great x 4 grandmother was named Ann Pitt and was born, she says, in Tettenhall around
l782-83. I cannot find anything about baptisms and wonder if she was a non-conformist.

She married in l824 in Wolverhampton, a Mr John Searle, and they lived in Northstreet. On his death in l839, then returned to live in Stockwell End, Tettenhall, and in her will, she left articles to a Mr Earp, and Mr Lea of Codsall, a shopkeeper and a Mr Shaw a farmer, presumably, also of Stockwell End. Her death was in l852. I am interested to know, also, if anyone knows of these names , and what farming was done in the area at this time. Mr John Searle was a bookeeper, but may have come from a middle class family. He was a widower when he married Ann, so she was his second wife. My great great great grandmother was named Elizabeth Pitt Searle, so I am wondering if she was a child born to Ann while he was still married to his first wife.

Any information you can give me to help me in my search in the area would be great. blackhamr@hotmail.com

The Clark(e) Family

My great-great-grandfather Fredrick Lloyd married a MARY CLARK of Tettenhall who was born circa 1795. She had at least two brothers Thomas born 1790 and Edward born 1791. Her mothers name was I believe Mary but I do not know her father's name. She was I think the grandaughter of Thomas Clark b.1736 and Ann Thomas.

It is possible that her father was one of Thomas and Ann's sons John born 1963.

Another grandson of Thomas and Ann also called Thomas b.1793 moved to Pattingham.

Any information about the Clark(e) would be welcome. johnward3@gmail.com

The Birkin Family

I am tracing my father's family tree and I know that he was born in Tettenhall in 1893; Frederick Edward Birkin. His father, Edward John Birkin was also born in Tettenhall in 1868 and we have traced back to George Birkin who resided at The Mitre Inn.

Does anyone have any records of my family - or would you know where I would go to please.

Thanking you in anticipation of a reply.

Please email us here if you can help birkin.family@zen.co.uk

William Beech

I am researching my great great grandfather and his family who lived in Tettenhall in 1851.

The head of the household was William Beech born around 1823 in Tettenhall, his wife Isabella Beech born around 1825 in Middleton. The 1851 census shows 2 children Charles Beech born about 1849 and Frances Beech born about 1850 both in Tettenhall.

I am looking for my great grandfather Richard Beech born about 1852 in Wolverhampton. They are not to be found in the 1861 census, and I am assuming that by this time they had immigrated to South Africa. I know that William and Isabella were married in December 1847.

Family sources say that Richard had a twin brother who died soon after birth. No record has been found to support this. I believe that Isabella's maiden name was Ashwood. I have not yet found birth records of any of the family members.

If any person has details regarding this family I would greatly appreciate it.

Richard Wrottesley

I am researching my Wrottesley ancestry and find it recorded that Richard Wrottesley, Esq. who died between July 1522 and before 3 June 1524 and his wife Dorothy Sutton (Dudley) d. 1517 were "buried with incised slab" at Tettenhall, Staffordshire.

I was wondering if someone might know the burial location of these persons and maybe some genealogy on the Wrottesleys who appear in the history of Tettenhall.
